AmeriCorps Opportunity with Portland Parks & Rec Urban Forestry

Natasha Lipai, Tree Plan Outreach Coordinator through AmeriCorps, working at the Portland Parks & Recreation, is at the end of her current service, and asked neighborhoods to post this opening:

"To briefly summarize this position: The Tree Plan Coordinator will promote education and awareness around the urban forest while coordinating stewardship events with new and existing volunteers. The coordinator will also promote the involvement of low-income and low-canopy neighborhoods in the Street Tree Inventory. Since Urban Forestry operates many of its education and outreach programs at the neighborhood-level, we think it would be great to see some applicants who are already involved with their neighborhoods at a grassroots-level. There’s plenty of support available from the supervisor and staff, and the service member even has the opportunity to serve on the Education and Outreach Committee of the Urban Forestry Commission, helping to plan Arbor Month and additional educational events.

Those selected for the 10-month position will receive a living stipend and be eligible for an education award scholarship. Service members may be eligible for food stamps, childcare stipend, medical insurance, and other benefits. Unlike other AmeriCorps programs, there is NO age-limit associated with this position.

I have attached a PDF of the announcement for your consideration and to view a more in-depth description of the service opportunity. The application deadline for this position is Wednesday, July 16th, 2014."
