Portland Accessory Short-Term Rental (ASTR) permits are divided by size and intensity: Type A is for renting 1-2 bedrooms to max 5 guests (simpler process), while Type B is for 3-5 bedrooms (complex Conditional Use review). Both require the host to live on-site, but Type B allows higher capacity and, as of late 2024, is limited strictly to residential zones.
