Why This Matters
Our County Charter acts as our local constitution, setting the foundation for how Multnomah County operates. Every six years, a committee of local residents studies the Charter to recommend amendments for voter approval. This committee directly shapes crucial issues, including but not limited to:
The powers of Multnomah County
The boundaries of County Districts
The number, structure, and essential duties of elected offices.
How legislation is passed
The creation of advisory boards, commissions, and departments
How to pursue County public improvement projects
Those who sit on this committee will help set the future course of Multnomah County. Ensuring robust community voices in this process is vital to keeping our local government aligned with community values.
Multnomah County residents eligible to vote are welcome to apply for the committee. Charter Review Committee members will also be eligible for a stipend for their participation.
