Free Online Info Session & Volunteer Training - Basic Earthquake Emergency Communication Nodes (BEECN)

Neighborhood Emergency Teams are being reactivated! Join this FREE class to learn how to help your neighbors in an emergency. We need you!

Monday (11/07), 6:00-7:30pm: Free Online Info Session & Volunteer Training - Basic Earthquake Emergency Communication Nodes (BEECN). A BEECN is a place to go in Portland after a major earthquake to ask for emergency assistance if phone service is down, or to report severe damage or injury. This free, 90-minute online training will introduce participants to the BEECN system. Learn where BEECNs are located, how they are set up, how to connect with other volunteers and deploy BEECNs in the case of a large earthquake that takes down phone lines. We'll review supplies in BEECN caches, learn how volunteers and the City's Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) play a role during disasters, and we'll check out the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management's website. Participants will also learn how to sign up to become a BEECN volunteer (which you will be eligible to do after this training - though there is no expectation that you will become a volunteer unless you want to).
