Boise-Eliot Community Garden Work Party

Although it's winter, there's still a lot to do in the garden. Join community garden's staff, gardeners and volunteers at a work party to clean up empty plots and get them ready for new gardeners.

To prepare empty plots, we'll weed and pull up dead plants and then protect the soil by mulching it with leaves or burlap. Mulching the soil prevents it from losing nutrients in the winter rain, suppresses weed growth, and makes it easier to prepare for spring planting next year.

Community gardens will provide tools, garden gloves, hot tea, snacks and instruction. Join us prepared to have fun and get dirty in the garden.

RSVP to Rodney Bender at rodney.bender@portlandoregon.gov

Plots: Gardeners can sign up for the waitlist by calling our office at 503-823-1612 or online here: http://www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/65817  The web page includes all the details about signing up for a plot.

Our work parties are open to anyone in the community, not just plot holders.  The work parties focus on working on common areas like foot paths, native plant areas, group fruit areas and cleaning up empty/non-rented plots.  The plots that are rented are maintained by the plot holders and we don’t do anything in those plots during work parties.   Here is a link to our event calendar: http://www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/63570
